History of Cook Islands Coconut Bras:

The use of coconut shells for clothing and accessories is a tradition that dates back centuries in the Pacific Islands. The coconut, a versatile and abundant resource, was used for a variety of purposes, including food, shelter, and clothing. Coconut shells were often used to make containers, musical instruments, and other household items, and they were also used to create clothing such as coconut bras.

The coconut bra is believed to have originated in Hawaii, but it quickly spread to other Pacific Island nations, including the Cook Islands. Today, coconut bras are commonly worn as part of traditional dance costumes or for special occasions, such as weddings or festivals.

Color and Design of Cook Islands Coconut Bras:

Cook Islands coconut bras are typically made from two coconut shells that are hollowed out and shaped to fit over the breasts. The shells are usually left in their natural brown color, but they can also be painted or decorated with other materials such as shells, beads, or feathers. The coconut bra is held in place with string or other materials that are tied behind the wearer’s back and neck.

How are Cook Islands Coconut Bras Made?

To make a Cook Islands coconut bra, the first step is to find two coconut shells that are roughly the same size and shape. The shells are then cleaned and dried before being hollowed out and sanded to create a smooth surface. The shells are then shaped to fit over the wearer’s breasts, and holes are drilled in the top and bottom of each shell to allow for the string or other materials to be tied.

Once the shells are shaped and prepared, they can be decorated with paint, shells, beads, or other materials to create a unique design. The string or other materials used to hold the coconut bra in place can also be decorated or embellished to add to the overall look.

Find the right Size

Step 1. Measure around your body, just under your breasts (Band Size)

Step 2. Measure around your body pulling the tape tight, at the fullest part of the breast which can be over your bra (Bust Size)

Step 3. The difference between the Band Size and the Bust Size shows your cup size. Example: (Bust Size – Band Size = Cup Size CM:95-80=15cm, i.e. Cup B/IN : 38-32=6inches , i.e. Cup B

10-12cm / 4.0 – 4.7 inches = Cup AA

12-14 cm/ 4.7 – 5.5 inches = Cup A

14-16 cm / 5.5 – 6.3 inches = Cup B

16-18cm / 6.3 – 7.1 inches = Cup C

18-20cm / 7.1 – 7.9 inches = Cup D

20-22cm / 7.9 – 8.7 inches = Cup DD

22-24cm / 8.7 – 9.4 inches = Cup E

24-26cm / 9.4 – 10.2 inches = Cup F

26-28cm / 10.2 – 11.0 inches = Cup FF

28-30cm / 11.0 – 11.8 inches = Cup G

*If your measurement is in between the measurements shown, then go up to the next measurement. For example, if your measurement is 31 inches then go up to the 32.

Step 4. To find your Bra Size, use the Band Size and the Cup Size. If your Band Size is 80cms / 32 inches and your Cup Size is B, use the size chart to find the corresponding size.
